Great new features and enhancements are continuously released for SAP Business One, the affordable enterprise resource planning (ERP) application designed for small to midsized enterprises and subsidiaries of large enterprises.

We’ve posted several articles highlighting SAP Business One enhancements from our Weekly Web Chat series, and after looking at the full list, here are our top five SAP Business One features:

  1. Enhanced Production Module - New Resources Functionality.

One of the biggest changes in SAP Business One compared to previous releases is the new resources module. With SAP Business One, users can manage and place resource capacity, as well as, capture machine labour and other associated costs. This allows growing businesses to gauge production capacity and resource costs ahead of time.
  2. Multiple Branches in one database.

In SAP Business One, users can now do the following, at the branch level:
    • Create sales or purchasing transactions for separate branches in one database.
    • Manage bank transactions from the same database with centralised payment capability.
    • Assign branches to business partners and much more.

We like this functionality because users now have the ability to manage multiple branch locations in one localised database, increasing the transparency of branch performance from one central location.
  3. Serial and batch valuation for inventory costing.

In the previous version of SAP Business One, there were three valuation methods: average cost, FIFO (first in first out) and standard costs. Now in SAP Business One, a new valuation method is available for serial numbered and batch-managed items. This enables users to manage the cost of an item at the serial or batch number level and this translates to having company profitability calculated based on a specific serial number or an individual item in a particular batch.
  4. More options for sending documents via email.

In SAP Business One, users can now choose the default email browser for sending documents. Microsoft Outlook users will be relieved as they can now choose to send documents from MS Outlook or the default SAP Business One. Another useful email enhancement is the ability to automatically convert to PDF file format and send via email.
  5. Microsoft Excel Integration.

Integration with Microsoft Excel has been enhanced and we found that the ability to copy and paste between SAP Business One grids and Microsoft Excel to be very useful. This enhancement expedites the way users can move data from a spreadsheet to SAP Business One, such as copy and paste information for sales orders and journals and in addition, users can edit a large table of data in a familiar user interface.
